RAISING PUPPIES

Page 2

New born puppies are born deaf and blind and remain this way until about 10-14 days of age.  It is amazing how small they are when born (can range 9 oz--1.5 lbs) and how quickly they grow.  Below are pictures of a puppy at birth to 8 weeks old.

Ridgewood puppies are socialized with children and our other large dogs.  They are wormed, receive first immunization shots at six weeks of age along with being checked by the veterinarian at this time.  After receiving their first shots, I take them on car rides to help prepare them for their trip to their new homes.  Crate training starts at around five and half-six weeks of age. They also receive their first bath at five weeks and have weekly baths and nail clippings from that time on (actually nail clipping starts at about one week of age).
